Year's agenda reflects Academy's expanding role in child health

I would like to thank the entire membership for the honor you have given me in electing me your president for this year. I am very conscious of this singular honor and also of the responsibility that goes with it.

Through the years, the Academy has become a constantly larger force in this nation. As the Academy's role has expanded, the responsibilities of its president have multiplied as well. I want you to know that I fully appreciate these facts and I pledge that my work this year will reflect those expanded responsibilities.
