We all are aware of the large discrepancy between private pediatric practice charges and Medicaid reimbursement. The 25 to 30 percent Medicaid reimbursement may not even meet overhead costs for the visit, and the anticipated 20 percent increase in Medicaid reimbursement will not significantly remedy this problem. However, I strongly feel that physicians should not protest by boycotting those who are most in need of health care. I am referring to pediatricians, as well as other physicians, who flatly refuse to accept Medicaid patients. This attitude is inconsistent with our oaths of practice.
